Spring MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Results
AISB has received the individual and class results from our recent 3-9 Grade testing.  90 students (Grade 3-9) were tested in 3 areas (Math, Language Usage and Reading).   AISB results can be compared to the Norm Group (from 3,400 school districts in the US, over 3 million students).   These scores include all ESOL students except for two 0-level students.

Spring Results
For each area, each grade level average RIT Scale score* was equal to or higher than the Norm average in that grade level with the exception of one.

*RIT Scale- measures a student’s academic growth over time. It is divided into equal intervals (Rasch Unit) and is independent of grade.

Growth Exceeds Expectations from Fall to Spring
In Reading, 6 out of 7 grade levels exceeded normal growth expectations from fall to spring.  In Language Usage and Mathematics, at least 4 out of 7 grade levels exceeded normal growth expectations from fall to spring.

Note:  In those classes where there were less than 10 students results were less reliable.

THE CARNEGIE UNIT

Early in the 20th Century, a commission funded by Andrew Carnegie's philanthropy met to set standards for the measurement and reporting of secondary education in the United States. One of the recommendations of the commission was to standardize the reporting of the quantity of secondary school work by assigning one unit of value to a subject taught one hour per day, five days per week, for one academic year. Generically, this has been known as an "annual unit of high school work". The Carnegie Unit is the most common quantitative reporting measure in the United States. A subject taught one hour per day (50 to 60 minutes), five days per week, for one 16-week semester will have 65 to 80 hours of teaching time. This is equivalent to one-half credit. If the class is taken for two semesters (130 to 160 hours), this is equivalent to one full credit or one Carnegie Unit.
